When using the WAAV signal booster, cellular signals are received from the nearest cellular tower through the cellular antenna. The signal is then amplified by the signal booster before it is transmitted to the AirBox. This increases the received signal strength, which improves bandwidth and coverage. A signal booster is highly recommended when traveling to remote and rural areas. Note that there will not be a large difference in the connection speed when using signal boosters in urban areas with great coverage or in other areas close to cellular towers; the greatest benefit from the signal booster comes in the fringe areas of coverage, and it can greatly increase your connection reliability in such areas. Note: The AirBox CM3 requires one signal booster, while the AirBox X2 requires two signal boosters.
